The ILO brings together governments, employers and workers of 187 member States , to set labour standards, develop policies and devise programmes promoting decent work for all women and men. However, in this instance it had particular focus on Africa and how the Covid-19 pandemic affected thee labour markets.
The ILO had a conference ahead of them, where they were to present what they are doing and have been doing as far as African labour markets are concerned. The limited travelling reality of the past couple of years, meant that they could not apply their usual hands on approach in assisting labour markets adapt quickly. They needed to use story telling to communicate the science of skills anticipation so that Africa may not be found wanting should another situation like this arise. All they had was academic literature on definitions and principles of skills anticipation.
We came up with with an animated video that explained in the simplest way possible, the nature of Africa's labour market and how its stake holders ought to do to quickly recover from this pandemic and to be prepare should this happen again. My role as project lead for the creative team, was to facilitate the translation of the voice over script in to visual scene. We designed the look and feel of the characters and the environments they will be in. We also then defined how scenes will animate on to the screen and transition from one to the other.
This was all done pre-production to ensure client by-in before going ahead and animate the full video that client would not approve. The deadlines were tight that mean we had to get it right from the start.
i came up with a production workflow that made sure we utilised the little time we had for execution. The scenes were broken down into a task backlog. each scene had to be composed, illustrated and animated. these tasks were allocated to a design one task at time in accordance with their skill set. this meant that once scene one was complete, an available designer would then go on to execute the next available scene. Which wouldn't necessarily be scene two.
